How to use the verb “want”

 The verb "want"  is normally used when asking for something.

Example

Ben: What do you want from the shop?

Anne: I want an ice cream, please.

Affirmative                          Negative
I	want	an ice cream	I	don't want	an ice cream
You	want	a T-shirt	You	don't want	a t-shirt
We	want	an apple	We	don't want	an apple
They	want	a drink	They	don't want	a drink
He	wants	a cat	He	doesn't want	a cat
She	wants	a dog	She	doesn't want	a dog

Examples of how to use "want" in a sentence

Ben: What do you want for your birthday?

Anne: I want a new car, please.

Anne: What animal do you want?

Ben: I want a dog.

Examples of a negative way to use “want” in a sentence

Ben: What don't you want for your birthday?

Anne: I want a new washing machine.

Anne: What animal don't do you want?

Ben: I don't want a Guinea pig.

No, we use “want” with “To” followed by an infinitive.

Example with Affirmative sentences
