ADVERBS OF MANNER EXPLANATION WITH EXERCISE

Hi There!!!

How's things?

In the following post, we are able to learn basic rules about adverbs of manner.

We use adverbs of manner after a verb to describe the verb, and to say how something happens or how we do something.

Examples:

It rains heavily
(We are describing how it's raining)

He always replies quickly
(We are describing how he replies)

Adverbs of manner are always placed at the end of a sentence after a verb or, if there is an object after the verb.

Examples

She rides carefully
You play the violin brilliantly

We use VERY - REALLY - QUITE before an adverb of manner to give more emphasis.

Examples

It rains QUITE heavily.
She dances REALLY well.
You play the recorder VERY carefully.

You have to bear in mind that all adjectives are places before a noun and adverbs of manner after a verb.

Here below, there are some spelling rules to form adverbs of manner.

* Most adverbs add -ly
slow --> slowly

*Adverbs ending -y >> change -y to -i >> add -ly
happy --> happily

*Adverbs ending -le >> change -e to ly
reasonable --> reasonably

*Irregular adverbs
good --> well

*Adverbs that have the same form as the adjectives
fast --> fast
hard --> hard
early --> early
late --> late
right --> right
wrong --> wrong

Now, let's take the next exercise to reinforce the grammar rules learned before in the explanation.
