KILTS AND TARTANS FROM SCOTLAND

Hi There!!!

How is it going?

Read the next information below about kilts and tartans.

In Scotland, there are many cultural traditions.

Look at the british map below.

Scotland is placed in the north. It´s got orange colour.

The tradition of wearing kilts started in the Scottish highlands. A kilt was a piece of cloth.
Men tied the kilt round their waists with a belt. They used a sporran, a small leather bag, to keep money and other valuable things in.
At night, they used the kilt as a blanket. By the 18th century, kilts were like the one in the picture below on the left side.

The traditional cloth for kilts is tartan. Tartans can be many different combinations of colours. Scottish clans or big family groups traditionally have their own tartan.

Today, some men still wear kilts and sporrans for special occasions. They do it in weddings, parades and Scottish dances where people play traditional music with the famous Scottish bagpipes.
